Fountainhead Montessori Distance Learning and COVID-19 Practices and Procedures

On behalf of Fountainhead Montessori, we hope that your family stays safe and healthy. We are committed to the health and safety of our students, teachers, and staff. Our school is open with students attending class, and we do offer distance learning as an alternative to attending school onsite. Here you will find information on our health and safety protocol and our distance learning plan option.

Safety and Cleaning Protocol

  • Infection Prevention in Our Schools
As a part of our daily operations, we follow the guidelines of the CA Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Occupational Safety & Health, and the local health department.
  • Advanced air handling
Please note most classrooms have advanced air handling using a MERV 13 rating.
  • What type of cleaning do we perform on campus?
We clean, sanitize, and disinfect every classroom where shared surfaces/materials must be shared.  However, shared surfaces will be minimized as much as possible. Also, we use Oxivir®, a medical-grade cleaner typically used in hospitals. This powerful cleaner efficiently eliminates germs and is gentle to use on hands and surfaces. Plus, we have a professional cleaning company that comes into clean nightly.
  • Daily Health Guideline
We will always put safety first and follow protocols. We are wearing facemasks inside and outside our classrooms and when near people. Under the current CDC guidelines, students ages 10 or older must wear masks. Although not required, children under the age of 10 may wear a mask if they prefer. No one with a temperature over 100.4 will be allowed at the school. Children can return after 72 hours fever-free. If anyone has a cough or a cold or had close contact with others that have symptoms of fever, or shortness of breath, entering the campus is not allowed. Everyone is required to wash their hands frequently, and we recommend it when entering and before exiting. Please notify us if your child was at school and was diagnosed with a contagious illness so that we can take proper measures.
  • Social Distancing
We follow the local health department guidelines that suggest we limit close contact with others as much as possible and maintain more than three feet of separation.
  • Campus Access
Our goal is to minimize visitors whenever possible. We require staff and visitors to follow the social distance guidelines and best practices for parents at drop-off and pick-up times. We will conduct periodic health screenings of staff and students as necessary.  We will inform and follow up with staff and parents to maintain compliance with all guidelines.
  • The Plan for Addressing COVID-19 Exposure on our Campuses
School Site Liaison would send lists of any exposed students and staff to the Alameda Public Health Dept., and we would immediately notify parents and staff.

Distance Learning Option Prep/Primary

We start our class with check-in and greeting. Following this, we will have our first presentation. In our presentations, we will discuss monthly theme materials, the calendar and weather, grace and courtesy, care of self, everyday life skills, letter of the week, and the number of the week. The children also get to ask questions and share their thoughts. This presentation is designed for all the children in the class, and we want to encourage children to bond into the class, have fun, and feel comfortable.

We divided the hour into three sections:

  1. The first section is math work time, older children are asked to log in to their Xtra Math account to work on the math that is designed for your child, and younger children can work on pre-math with parents.
  2. The second section is outdoor playtime; children need to go outside and relax.
  3. The third section is language work time; children are asked to log in to the RAZ Kids for access to stories and reading.

Distance Learning Option Elementary

Distance Learning Option Elementary Our Distance Learning option for Elementary is offered as an alternative to attendance on campus.

Assignments will be daily, weekly, or longer-term, and all work will be submitted online for feedback. In addition to independent work for each student to complete, there will be group learning projects and group meetings that students are expected to attend online, as well as weekly one-on-one meetings with each student and the teacher. These will be scheduled at prearranged times, all of which will be listed in each child’s weekly work plan. Also, there will be office hours available each day where the teacher can be reached in case of any questions that come up during work time so that they can swiftly be answered.

Onsite Campus Option

Onsite Campus Option Our campuses are open for an onsite Montessori experience. We welcome all students to attend class and have been following the guidelines of the Child Care Licensing Department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding COVID-19.

Over the summer, our staff has worked studiously on the continued development of a well-organized monthly curriculum. As mentioned, our school is open with in-classroom instruction, and we offer distance learning as a choice to attending school onsite. Whether online or in the classroom, we are confident that your child will have a great year with us.

At Fountainhead Montessori, we are fortunate to have an exceptional group of teachers and staff to work with our students and parents. We are all looking forward to a very productive and academic year for your child.
