Welcome to Fountainhead Montessori

The Tangible Rewards of Teaching Real Montessori

Fountainhead Montessori School was founded in 1972 on the Montessori philosophy that each child is an individual accorded the respect due to every person, and children think and learn in unique ways. A learning environment should be joyful, where knowledge becomes real understanding. Our school has come a long way since then, but our core belief is still the basis of our educational philosophy today.

Frequently Asked Questions

How structured is class time?

The class generally follows a regular schedule. Children thrive on consistency. Each teacher sets their own schedule. However, for Primary and Kindergarten, it usually goes something like this: First, circle time with greetings, songs, games, and demonstrations. A work period follows where children choose from a broad range of materials in the environment. Then perhaps another short circle, outside time, and a story/closure circle. Children then have lunch or leave to go home. The afternoon class follows a similar schedule.

Within the schedule, there are many opportunities for independence and personal choice. The schedule may be adapted to include special activities such as music or movement enrichment, special events, the weather, and of course the needs of the children.

What is the Montessori philosophy?

Montessori encourages and supports children to reach their full potential in a challenging prepared environment. Children are allowed to enjoy the process of learning, which satisfies their intellect, self-esteem, and social needs. Montessori is self-directed learning. With such a philosophy, Montessori children enjoy learning and actively engage in the process as well.

Montessori works by allowing children to work at their own pace, with the teacher introducing new materials and challenging subject matter. The multiyear span in the classes allows family-like learning to propagate and flourish in a caring and challenging environment.
