This 9 a.m.–12 noon class is offered three half days or five half days per week depending on location. Children may also join us in our Extended Day portion of the day for a full-day Prekindergarten/Kindergarten program (9 a.m.–3 p.m.). This optional class is an extension of our morning program and is held from 12 noon to 3 p.m. The prepared environment of the PreK/Kindergarten class consolidates the foundation of concrete learning developed during the Preschool/PreK years and provides ever-increasing opportunities for abstract thought. These very confident children are ready to take the next step with many of the same materials that have been introduced to them in the Preschool years, along with a wealth of new and exciting experiences.
The children hone their practical life, sensorial, math, and language skills in a busy, congenial atmosphere. The children use and build on their social skills as they discover ways to solve problems and negotiate conflicts. The PreK/Kindergarten class offers a peaceful yet invigorating environment for the older child to take advantage of the Montessori emphasis on learning how to learn, which will serve the child throughout his or her life.
Please note that children must be 4 years of age by the July 1st preceding the start of the school year to be eligible for this class. Children who are doing their Kindergarten year with Fountainhead must attend five half days per week or more of class time. For more about your child's Kindergarten year with Fountainhead please refer to our Parent Resources Tab.
