Every Montessori classroom has been thoughtfully prepared to meet the developmental, social, and emotional needs of the children. The materials, many designed by Dr. Maria Montessori, are inviting, sensorial, reality-based, and self-correcting, and they contain aspects and qualities that lay the foundation for math, language, reading, and writing.
Child-sized furniture, low shelves, and attractive artwork encourage the children to move freely and comfortably throughout the room and choose work that attracts them.
Every activity has a lesson designed into it so that any work the child chooses builds the foundation of learning. For instance, when counting pretzels for snack, they are practicing math skills. The multi-age grouping of children contributes to the development of both social skills and academic proficiency. The children have the opportunity in this classroom to interact with other children as well as pursuing the individual work that interests them.
